Testing Reports

Jun 9, 2015 at 1:10 PM
Dear Seddryck, dear professionals,

how would you approach the testing of reports (SSRS)?

I know, I can test certain datasets via the test type documented here:
http://nbi.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Get%20a%20query%20from%20a%20report

While there is the documentation of referencing report server folders, is there another possibility, as well? Or under which circumstances could such a reference be useful?
http://nbi.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Defaults%20and%20references

Perhaps it can be useful to test report results with an odata feed or anything alike when report logic was applied?

Any ideas are appreciated.
Best regards

Hi,

At the moment it's not possible to test reports' content. It was planned to introduce this feature in next release (target 20th of June) but my implementation was just wrong. It will be implemented in the 1.11 with the help of xpath

My recommendation is always to move "breakable" logic in the query. It's a personal opinion but I think it's more maintenable.

Thanks! This makes sense in any way. I'm looking forward to the implementation of report test types in the future :)
